Singles Qualifiers (Scroll down for "Splash" format.) A maximum of 8 players compete on a "Board". Those players can be bracketed according to skill levels, or a random draw of all abilities. The cost is $15/person if the board is full (8 players). If only 6 people play, the cost is $20/person. If only 4 people play (the minimum), the cost is $30/person. The tournament is single elimination and you play a standard APA game race (8-ball) or point race (9-ball). If you win your board, which is 3 matches, you then advance to the Regional level. There is no entry fee at the Regionals. The Regional event is Modified Single elimination, and is currently held in Richmond, Newport News or Virginia Beach. Here, players ARE bracketed together according to skill levels so you are playing against people of your own ability (actually broken down by decimals within your skill level). Regional winners advance to the Nationals in Las Vegas with a travel assistance fund and lodging compliments of the APA! The National tournament crowns 3 National Champions in separate skill level categories. In 8-ball, a 2/3 champion, a 4/5 champion and a 6/7 champion. In 9-ball, a 1-3 champion, a 4-5 champion and a 6-9 champion. So, as you can see, it very well could be the best $15.00 ever spent to play pool! Currently, the National 8-ball tournament pays out a total purse of $200,000 in cash and prizes, while the National 9-ball tournament pays out $100,000 in cash and prizes. To participate in a local Singles Qualifier, you must be listed on an active, standard, 8-ball team roster and have a minimum of 10 (8-ball) scores, which occurred within the past 2 years, to play 8-ball. You must be listed on an active, standard, 9-ball team roster and have a minimum of 10 (9-ball) scores, which occurred within the past 2 years, to play 9-ball. Once you win a local board, you must remain active in the APA format in which you qualified (8 or 9-ball), until the Regionals. If you advance from the Regionals to the Nationals, you must continue to remain active in the APA format in which you qualified (8 or 9-ball). "Splash" Format Same eligibility rules above except 16 players play in a double elimination board. Five players will qualify for regionals! Not 1, or 2, but 5! Cost is $30.00 for each player. *Each Qualifier Board lists all Rules of Eligibility* |
